Owe the IRS? You Can Lose You Passport.

President Obama has signed a new passport revocation provision into law to help the IRS collect back taxes.  New § 7345 of the Internal Revenue Code has been added as a result of the passage of  H.R. 22 – Fixing America’s Surface Transportation Act (“FAST ACT”)

The title of the new code section is “Revocation or Denial of Passport in Case of Certain Tax Delinquencies.” It provides that the State Department can revoke, deny or limit passports for taxpayers the IRS says have  delinquent tax liabilities in excess of $50,000.
